Hey! I'm George and here is a little bit about myself :)
I am a completely self taught Jeweller, starting in January of 2024 as a theraputic hobby that swiftly evolved into what GOTJ is today; an independent, handmade jewellery brand.
This wasn't always my intention but due to this years circumstances where I moved countries to open a retail franchise after a year of negotiations to have it fall apart 6 weeks after we got there. Sometimes life gives you a little nudge in a certain direction and I listened and followed.
I've always been in love with different types of artistic crafts, inspired by the limits they can be pushed to and the fact that there is no end to improvement and learning. This, with the struggle to find good unisex jewellery that held a meaning in the increasing sea of mass production led me here.
I am born and raised in the middle of England in a place called Stoke On Trent, famous for being the epicentre of ceramics for many years. I moved out when I was 18 to move to London to train as a professional dancer at UAL - After graduating, I worked as a dancer for 8 years in various settings, from Artist tours, to physical theatre/contemoporary companies and stage shows. I also spent a number of years working as a Photographer in the music/fashion niche which gave me a great skill set to apply to this brand, having shot all the product and lookbook shoots myself!
I have always been fascinated with juxtoposition and truly believe it is one of the reasons life is so interesting and dynamic. Having grown up in the midlands, surrounded by football and the Courteeners whilst spending most of my evenings dancing to American R&B artists, my life has been juxtoposed from the beginning.
I have a hard time doing things in moderation so since my life took a different path in the middle of 2025 I have been full speed ahead with everything jewellery and George Of The Jewels! I spent 4-6 weeks in the studio from 10am-6pm everyday, working on this collection and am very proud of what was achieved
This is very much the start of the brand and by laying the foundations of a first collection it gives me room and scope to grow from here. Finding stockists, connecting with the right people, getting featured in my favourite magazines and attending makers markets that I've always wanted to do in one way or another!
I have tried to be as transparent as possible on my journey, having showcased most of the errors, frustrations and also wins so far and will continue to do so. If you enjoy this sort of thing, make sure to check out my socials for a more indepth look at the process of how everything is made!
